Apple confirms screen cracking issue on iPhone Duo three days after launch
Apple acknowledged that a small number of iPhone Duo units are experiencing inner display cracks along the hinge.
Apple confirmed on October 26 that its new iPhone Duo is experiencing screen cracking issues affecting a small number of units. The foldable phone launched on October 23 at $1,999 for the 256GB model, and owners began posting photos of cracked inner screens along the hinge within three days.
Apple told 9to5Mac it is aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units and is offering AppleCare replacement. The company published repair manuals and parts lists on launch day, with out-of-warranty repair costs set at $999.
Reports of cracked screens came from Australia, the US, Canada, China and India by October 25. MacRumors and TechRadar labeled the situation Crackgate, and CNBC, CBS News, Fox News and Tom's Guide covered the issue.
Apple stock slipped roughly 1.1% on October 28 following the display defect reports. The company has not named a cause or provided a count of affected units. Apple is scheduled to report fiscal Q4 earnings on November 2.
