Apple iPhone Duo fails after 75,000 folds in durability test
Polish YouTuber Kuba Klawiter's livestream test showed the iPhone Duo developing display lines after 75,003 folds, while Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 lasted over 400,000 folds in similar testing.
Polish YouTuber Kuba Klawiter livestreamed a folding durability test where different people folded and unfolded the iPhone Duo. The device failed after 75,003 folds when the inner display developed lines.
The phone operated without issues for the first 50,000 folds. Klawiter then introduced dust to simulate real-world pocket conditions, after which the crease appeared significantly worse at 60,000 folds. The final test involved placing the device in ice to simulate Polish winter conditions, which led to the display failure.
In comparison, Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 lasted over 400,000 folds in similar testing. Samsung has begun mocking the iPhone Duo for its poor durability.
Separately, YouTuber JerryRigEverything found that dust particles entered the iPhone Duo's hinge despite its IP68 rating, preventing the phone from closing completely. The exterior display scratched at level seven on the Mohs hardness scale, while the flexible inner screen scratched at level two.
Users are reporting lines developing on the inner display within days of launch. Apple is offering free replacements, though iFixit's teardown suggests the hinge may be the source of the problem, meaning replacement units could develop the same issue.
