Sucker Punch cuts 24 staff after Ghost of Yotei success
The Ghost of Yotei developer has laid off at least 10% of its workforce despite the game being one of PlayStation's best-selling titles.
Sucker Punch Productions has laid off 24 employees following the release of Ghost of Yotei and its Echoes of Sekigahara expansion. The studio has between 190 and 230 staff, meaning the cuts represent at least 10% of its workforce.
Studio leadership said in an email the decision came after carefully observing market challenges and reviewing team needs for their next project. Several positions across Sucker Punch were eliminated as a result.
Ghost of Yotei launched a year ago to critical and user acclaim. The game was reported to be Sony's best-selling title on PS5 as of June 2026. The studio's latest release was the critically acclaimed Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, which brought back the first game's protagonist Jin Sakai.
This is not the first time Sucker Punch has conducted layoffs after a successful release. The studio laid off an unspecified number of employees in 2014 following the launch of Infamous Second Son, the same month its expansion First Light was released.
