Walmart offers $519 gift cards to customers after canceling Zelda Switch 2 preorders
Walmart is offering some affected customers another chance to buy the console and gift cards worth $519 after canceling preorders one day before the October 29 release.
Walmart canceled numerous preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition just before its October 29 release. Customers were informed the console was out of stock, leaving many scrambling to find alternatives.
The retailer is now offering affected customers another chance to purchase the console through an Exclusive Reservation item in their shopping carts. Customers receiving this offer have 48 hours to complete checkout, with purchases limited to one console per person.
Some customers are also being promised $519 gift cards as compensation. With original payments refunded or authorization holds released, the compensation could effectively cover almost the entire cost of another Zelda Switch 2 console. The console originally retailed for $519.99.
Not everyone is receiving both offers. Some customers report finding the reservation in their shopping carts, while others received the gift card email without being offered another console. The situation comes amid a broader shortage of Zelda-themed hardware, with some GameStop locations expecting as few as zero to five consoles for launch.
