Apple tests Face ID for iPhone Duo 2 with under display camera

Apple has started testing a version of the iPhone Duo that features Face ID support, according to Mark Gurman. The facial recognition system would be part of an under display camera.
The original iPhone Duo launched without Face ID, which disappointed users since the feature has been a staple of Apple flagships for almost a decade. The absence conflicted with Apple's claims that Face ID is more secure than Touch ID.
The iPhone Duo also lacks a dedicated telephoto lens, which results in worse photo quality at magnified zoom levels compared to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Xiaomi's 18 Fold includes a triple-lens camera with a 50MP telephoto lens capable of 3x optical zoom.
The high demand for the foldable means Apple wants the sequel ready as soon as possible. It remains unclear whether the cover display camera will also be under-display or if only the Face ID system will be hidden.
