Nursing student wins $250,000 after finding IShowSpeed in NYC scavenger hunt
Ben found IShowSpeed on a rooftop after searching for over an hour during a livestream event on Oct. 28.
A nursing student identified as Ben won $250,000 after finding IShowSpeed's location in New York City on Oct. 28. The streamer presented Ben with an oversized check after he reached the rooftop hiding spot.
Ben found the location after searching for a little over an hour. IShowSpeed initially joked that the contest was a prank before telling him "You just won $250,000! Congratulations, bro! You found me" as confetti fell.
Participants followed GPS coordinate digits that were revealed gradually during the livestream. Five costumed Dr. Squatch characters stationed around the city carried additional numbers to help narrow down the hiding place.
The scavenger hunt was scheduled to run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, but Ben found the location before the three-hour window ended. HypeFresh reported that Ben had around $2,000 in his bank account and skipped exam preparation to join the search.
The competition was the finale of Dr. Squatch's nine-week "Speedrun: Million Dollar Mission" campaign, which offered $1 million in total prizes through 25 challenges across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.
