Minecraft creator Markus Persson lists Beverly Hills mansion for $70 million
Persson is selling the property for the same price he paid in 2014 when he outbid Beyoncé and Jay-Z.
Minecraft creator Markus Persson has listed his Beverly Hills mansion for $70 million, the same price he paid for the property in 2014. Persson outbid Beyoncé and Jay-Z to purchase the spec home in a record-breaking deal at the time.
The roughly 22,300-square-foot estate sits on nearly an acre in Trousdale Estates and features eight bedrooms and two swimming pools. Persson added a multimillion-dollar recording studio and nightclub to the property, where he hosted well-known artists for recording sessions.
Listing agent Aaron Kirman said Persson is not in Los Angeles often these days and is committed to selling. The luxury market has slowed since the mid-2010s when developers built an unprecedented number of high-end spec homes, saturating the market by 2019.
Persson sold Minecraft to Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014, the same year he purchased the mansion. He developed his first video game at age 8 and worked for the company that created Candy Crush Saga before launching Minecraft publicly around 2009.
