Call of Duty has passed $40 billion in lifetime revenue, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announces. The franchise has been running for 22 years, 11 months and 28 days since its first release.

Sharma says Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is one of the most celebrated games in the franchise's 24-year history. She thanks the Activision team and players for reaching the milestone.

The $40 billion total places Call of Duty behind Mario and Pokemon. The franchise has earned an average of $4,762,472 per day over its lifetime.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 remains the top-selling title with over 43 million copies sold. Modern Warfare (2019) follows with over 41 million copies sold. Modern Warfare 2 (2022) holds the record for most successful launch, earning $1 billion in 10 days with 200 million hours played.

The franchise releases one game per year through studios including Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. Modern Warfare 2 (2022) was the first Call of Duty on Steam since 2017's WW2 and reached Steam's top 10 games by concurrent players.
