YouTuber JerryRigEverything tests iPhone Duo with dust and bend tests, screen shows green lines
The YouTuber poured sand and dust on Apple's first foldable phone and bent it backwards, causing permanent green lines to appear on the inner screen.
YouTuber Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything conducted durability tests on Apple's iPhone Duo, which launched in Taiwan on October 23 starting at 74,900 TWD. The phone features a titanium body and low-crease screen.
Nelson poured large amounts of sand, gravel and dust onto the phone's body and hinge area. Despite the iPhone Duo's IP68 dust and water resistance rating, fine particles entered the hinge through gaps. The accumulated debris prevented the magnetic closure from working properly, leaving the phone unable to fully close.
In the bend test, Nelson opened the iPhone Duo flat and applied force in the opposite direction of its normal fold. The titanium body did not break immediately, but a permanent green line quickly appeared on the inner screen, extending from the folding area to the edge. After a second application of force, two more abnormal lines appeared. The screen still displayed an image but lost touch functionality.
Scratch tests showed the outer screen with second-generation Ceramic Shield displayed noticeable scratches at Mohs hardness level 7, while the inner screen showed marks at level 2. Fingernail pressure could also cause damage to the inner screen. Nelson noted that most foldable phones he has tested over the years have survived these tests, but the iPhone Duo did not pass.
