Nintendo Switch 2 jailbroken over a year after launch with software-only exploit
A developer created ns2jb, an exploit that allows code execution on Switch 2 through SmileBASIC 4 but cannot run game backups.
Nintendo Switch 2 has been jailbroken over a year after its launch through a software exploit called ns2jb. Developer pepsipu created the exploit, which allows hackers to execute code on the console with hard limits.
The exploit cannot run video game backups or run an LLM on the Switch 2. Pepsipu demonstrated the hack by modifying Mario Kart World to add Angry Birds' Red and Sanrio's Cinnamoroll as playable racers.
Ns2jb takes advantage of SmileBASIC 4, an educational programming app by SmileBoom available on the eShop. SmileBoom has been making SmileBASIC for Nintendo platforms since 2011 on the 3DS.
The exploit may lead to SmileBoom having to stop publishing the app in the future. It remains unknown whether ns2jb was created using generative AI.
