EA announces first Fight Night game since 2011
EA Sports revealed the boxing franchise is returning after 15 years through a new social media account.
EA Sports announced Fight Night is returning after a 15-year hiatus. The company revealed the news through a new Twitter account called EA Sports Fight Night that posted a message reading "To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back."
The last Fight Night game was Fight Night Champion in 2011. EA released five Fight Night games between 2004 and 2011, all scoring 85 or higher in reviews. After 2011, EA shifted its fighting game focus to UFC, releasing its first UFC game three years later and UFC 6 this year.
The account's profile includes an ESRB rating pending notice, which may indicate the game has been submitted for rating. No release date or additional details were provided in the announcement.
Insider Gaming previously reported in September that original plans for Fight Night's return had been canceled roughly a year ago. However, the report noted a restart was possible under EA's new ownership led by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, which has a major stake in boxing.
