Digital Sun has cancelled the public playtest for its upcoming vampire game ReVamp due to concerns about AI clones and reverse-engineering.

The studio thanked Steam players for signing up but explained that recent news of games being cloned and published before the original release made them reconsider. With launch still months away, the developer felt that sharing a build with tens of thousands of players posed too big a risk.

The decision comes as indie developers face growing concerns about their games being reverse-engineered and copied by bad actors using AI tools. Digital Sun referenced these worries in their announcement to would-be playtesters.

The studio also called on platforms to strengthen protections for original work. Digital Sun said they would love to see platforms implement better safeguards so studios of every size can continue sharing their games early with players.
