Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 38 confirms Konohamaru Sarutobi will become the eighth Hokage of Konoha. The chapter was released on October 20, 2026 as part of the series' 10th volume. Naruto Uzumaki, who achieved his dream of becoming Hokage when the original Naruto manga ended on November 10, 2014, is now permanently removed from the position.

Kashin Koji reveals in the chapter that Kobu plans to install Konohamaru as Hokage to serve as a figurehead while Kobu takes control of Konoha himself. Shikamaru Nara, who held the position as temporary Hokage, is being taken into custody for collaborating with Boruto Uzumaki.

The Boruto series has weakened Naruto's character significantly. In Chapter 55, released on February 19, 2021, Naruto lost the majority of his Nine-Tails and Six Paths powers after using Baryon Mode. Kurama told him he would no longer have superhuman strength.

Kawaki sealed Naruto away in Boruto Chapter 77, released on January 19, 2023. With Konohamaru now becoming the eighth Hokage, Naruto cannot reclaim his position even if he returns.
