BrickStation turns Lego PlayStation into playable console
The unofficial kit allows the Lego PlayStation set to run PS1 games via emulation with HDMI output and original memory card support.
The team behind BrickBoy has created BrickStation, an unofficial kit that turns the recently-released Lego PlayStation set into a functional gaming console. The device runs PS1 games under emulation and connects to TVs via HDMI cable.
BrickStation replaces the set's left-hand Ape Escape side tray while leaving the rest of the build unchanged. Thomas Bertani, inventor and technical lead at BrickBoy, says the team wanted to maintain the original design. Games load via MicroSD card and the system supports wireless Bluetooth or USB controllers along with original PS1 memory cards.
The functional power button activates the console using a magnet and magnetometer system. A tiny speaker and vibration motor recreate the sound of a CD drive spinning up when powered on.
The BrickBoy project previously raised โฌ1 million on Kickstarter with over 5,600 backers. The Lego PlayStation set itself is a 1,911-piece recreation of Sony's original console from the 1990s, released at $179.99.
